How to create a sharp Logo with GIMP 2017

Open gimp and create a new project. Select the size you want.

Select Font and Text size - You can find really good fonts at Dafont.com

create new layer then click merge down:

Make sure to add alpha channel (If you dont add this, the logo wont have a transparent background.)

Hit alpha to selection. This should grab the texts

Then hit shrink

Then once its shrinks
hit crt + X which leaves this
BEFORE

Then repaste it with crt + V (Which repastes the cropped image.
(You should have 3 layers at the point.

Then right click on the top layer or where the inner text is at and hit alpha to selection (Which graps pasted image)

Then go over to  gradient

And select Colors that are similar to each other. One is usually Lighter then the other dark.

Then simply swipe down wards making sure the darker color is at the bottom of gradient

Then go to filters enhance and hit sharpen.

Place the sharpen level to how ever you want it.

Next add a drop shawdow
Filters > light and shawdow > Drop shadow

Select volume of drop shadow and color:

final result a more defined text logo.

Good little step-by-step tutorial, may be useful for somebody completely new to graphics.
Next time try explaining what some of the functions do, as an inexperienced graphics might not necessarily know what an alpha channel is for example.

Surprising to see the tutorial being based in gimp, but it's a nice tutorial I suppose.
